We're still working away on our big project. After Mr Malcolm cut out the shapes, we had to sand them until they were smooth. We had some big kids to help us. We looked at clothing designs, and decided to do the children in their school uniforms. After that, we have been taking it in turns to do painting.

Well we have been super busy in Room 3! Not only have we been reading, writing, doing maths, fitness ,singing and topic, but we've been making our mural cut-out people as well. First we had to draw round some children on paper, then MRs Malcolm transferred them onto ply wood.MR MALCOLM CUT THEM OUT FOR US WITH A JIGSAW.
We had fun drawing round each other with chalk. We are practising one of the skills we will need when we start making our mural people for the school fence.
To start off the new term, Adam from Project Energise came to school to help us learn about riding bikes safely. We had a great time riding around, up the ramp, and even over a see saw!!! He also checked to make sure that our helmets fitted properly.
We're been learning about visual Art from all around the world. We made Indian Rangoli patterns using coloured salt and sand: We also made Aboriginal dot paintings. We used cotton buds and chopsticks to make careful dot patterns in traditional earthy tones. They look fabulous!!
Today at school we had The NED show. NED stands for: Never give up. Encourage others. Do your best. Andrew talked about how we should make goals and always try to be our best. He showed us cool tricks with yo yos. Room 3 wrote about times that we show NED's values:
SPECIAL PLEA TO OUR READERS:
Thank you so much to Mrs Crimmins who looks at our blog and comments every week. If we have any other readers, we'd love to hear from you through a comment. It takes a while to update the blog every week, and we are not sure if other people are enjoying sharing our work. Thank you, from Room 3 :-) This week we have been settling back into school and enjoying seeing our friends again. We have been talking about how to get along, and about our feelings. We read a poem where the author had described how different feelings made him think about different colours. We had a go ourselves. Here is some of our writing.
As part of our Matariki study, we have been reading some of the legends that explain why we have the seven star constellation which disappears for a few weeks each year. For our writing activity we had to choose one of the legends to retell in our own words. Everyone chose the same one!!! The legend of the Seven Fish By Alyssia
The fishes’ Mum said to the seven fish “you don’t go to swim in the sea or Tataraimaka the giant will catch you.” The seven fish forgot what their mother said and the giant caught the seven fish. Tane tried to save the seven fish by throwing them into the sky. The mother fish tried to find them but she couldn't, and that’s how they became the seven stars. The Seven Fish By Sasha The Mum fish said stay by the rocks because Tataraimaka is coming fishing but the fish forgot Mum’s words and they got caught. The man was upset and he threw the seven fish up in the air and the sevenfish turned into stars. The Seven Stars Story By Ike The Mum said to the kids “stay by the rocks so he can’t get you” but he got them and threw them up into the sky and they turned into stars. The Seven Fish of Matariki By Scarlet There were seven little fish and the Mum said “stay by the rocks or else you’ll get caught by Taitaraimaka the giant. But the fish forgot to stay by the rocks and then Taitaraimaka came and the God of Light felt bad and threw the net into the sky and the fish turned into stars. The Legend of the Seven Fish By Tyla The Mum fish said “stay by the rocks” and she also said “be careful of Tataraimaka the giant that is going fishing”. They forgot, and they got caught and Tane the god threw them in the sky and they were stars. . |
